Strip Poker: Rules & Variations 2026
Strip poker is one of the original adult games for a reason: it combines mild competition, gradual revelation, and playful stakes in a way that builds tension effectively. You don't need to be a poker expert โ simplified versions work better for the intended purpose anyway.
Basic Strip Poker Rules ยง
The simplest version, playable with no poker knowledge:
Option 1: Five-Card Draw (Simplest) ยง
- Deal five cards to each player
- Each player can swap 0โ3 cards once
- Show hands โ lowest hand loses
- Loser removes one item of clothing
- Repeat until someone is fully undressed (or to an agreed stop point)
Hand rankings (high to low): Royal Flush, Straight Flush, Four of a Kind, Full House, Flush, Straight, Three of a Kind, Two Pair, One Pair, High Card.
Option 2: War (No Poker Knowledge Needed) ยง
- Shuffle a standard deck
- Each player draws one card face up simultaneously
- Lower card loses โ that player removes one item
- Ties: both players keep their clothes and draw again
War is faster, requires no skill, and ensures gradual, consistent undressing.
Creative Variations ยง
Couples Version (2 Players) ยง
For just two people, adapt to make undressing more gradual โ assign different point values to clothing items so the game lasts longer. Shoes = 1 point, socks = 1 point each, outer layer = 2 points, shirt/pants = 3 points, underwear = 5 points. Instead of one item per hand, the loser removes clothing equal to the winning hand margin.
Dare Variant ยง
Instead of removing clothing, the loser can choose to complete a dare (prepared in advance). Gives players who want to stay clothed an out while keeping the game playful. Dares can be clothing-adjacent or more explicit depending on the group's comfort level.
Blackjack Strip ยง
Play standard Blackjack (first to 21 or nearest without bust). The player further from 21 loses and removes one item. Faster-paced than poker and requires minimal skill.
Add-Back Rule ยง
Win three hands in a row and you can put one item back on. Extends the game and reduces the finality of the progression.
Tips for Making It Fun ยง
- Wear layers: More clothing = longer game = more build-up. Bonus points for absurd layering.
- Alcohol optional: A drink or two lowers inhibition; too much ruins judgment and enjoyment. Set a reasonable limit.
- Agree on the endpoint beforehand: "Down to underwear only" or "the game ends when [condition]" removes ambiguity.
- Play for something: Winner gets to make one request. Stakes add to the motivation.
- Keep it light: Laughing at a bad hand is encouraged. This is supposed to be fun.
What if one person loses badly and feels exposed while the other is still fully clothed?
The "underdressed gap" can feel awkward. To balance it: if one player loses their last significant item, let them earn clothes back through any subsequent win. Alternatively, when one player hits a defined minimum, they can declare a "final hand" to determine an overall winner rather than continuing asymmetrically.
Can strip poker be played with more than 2 people?
Yes โ strip poker originated as a group game. With more players, the game moves faster (more losers per hand). The same rules apply; the loser of each hand removes one item. Group dynamics add a different social dimension โ make sure everyone's genuinely comfortable before starting.
